Recently, there has been a great deal of chatter concerning whether some are assigning god-like qualities to the Democratic Party's presidential nominee [Obama: Antichrist or Messiah. Question Not Just for Christians any more" http://rffm.typepad.com/republicans_for_fair_medi/2008/08/obama-antichrist-or-messiah-question-not-just-for-christians-any-more.html]. Fuel will be thrown upon the cult of personality fire surrounding Barack Obama, after his acceptance speech on Thursday night.
Obama will be separated from the common people, who will be back at the Pepsi Center--where most of the Democratic Party's Convention has taken place this week. Obama and Party officials have decided to move what may seem like a coronation to many out of the convention hall which holds slightly more than 15,000 people.
On Thursday, Obama will speak from Invesco Field, the home of the Denver Broncos, which seats more than 75,000. Reports indicate the stage will be configured like a Greek temple with giant pillars aligning the forum. When Obama is announced, he is expected to emerge from in between the Greek-style columns to address what certainly will be a frantic throng.
This scene will definitely conjure up negative images in the minds of many. The criticism regarding the Messianic qualities currently being assigned to Obama will only increase after this spectacle which is reminiscent of a Hollywood extravaganza from days gone by.
There have been concerns voiced by some Democrats who believe Obama is seen as an elitist who is out of touch with common Americans. The setting for his acceptance speech will only add credence to that notion. Obama's appearance before that adoring throng will create images of the surreal. Many will see this as something positive. However, a majority of Americans may come away with a less flattering impression from this spectacle.
The only question is whether the Obama people are cognizant of the image they are casting for the junior Senator from Illinois. It is an over-the-top glorification of a man who has accomplished little in public life to deserve the adulation. When 200,000 Germans fell into a state of euphoria near the end of Obama's European tour, there was not a favorable reaction from the American people.
One of the most daunting tasks facing the Obama campaign is making him appear to be a regular guy. One of McCain's most successful ads featured Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton and Obama who were portrayed as rock star like figures. Thursday's event at Invesco Field will do little to downplay that image.

The thing is the "pseudo liberals" unlike the "Classic liberals" that founded the Republic, look upon themselves as the solution to problems. "We are the ones we have been waiting for." They can not, in their eyes, over do how important they are. They believe the common man is not smart enough to know what is good for him and his family, the "elite" must take it upon themselves to do that for him. The party faithful see no problems with the deification of their chosen one. I, on the other hand, find it highly insulting.
