Obama: Antichrist or Messiah. Question Not Just for Christians any more

Earlier this year I wrote what, at the time, I thought was a tongue in cheek column titled, "Obama The Antichrist? Hmm."  [http://rffm.typepad.com/republicans_for_fair_medi/2008/02/obama-the-antic.html].  The commentary was in response to what I believed was an irrationally positive response to the Obama presidential run.  There seemed to be a mystical quality surrounding Obama's campaign.  People were fainting, journalists were saying their legs were tingling while listening to Obama's speeches, it seemed very strange to me.  In fact, it seemed so strange, I tried to make light of the situation with my commentary.

However, since I wrote the piece, I have learned some Obama supporters have attributed Messianic qualities to the junior Senator from Illinois.  In fact, the following words came directly from the mouth of Sen. Barack Obama.

"...A nation healed, a world repaired.  We are the One we've been waiting for..."

"This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal..."

"A light will shine down from somewhere, you will have a light upon you, you will experience an epiphany and you will say to yourself: I have to vote for Barack."

Obviously, some of these lofty phrases struck a chord with millions of people around the world.  Unfortunately for the Democratic Party's presumptive presidential nominee, with the good, comes the bad.  If Obama was assigning himself god-like qualities, there were bound to be those who saw a darker, more sinister vision of the man.

Since its posting, my Obama antichrist commentary has been read by over 30,000 unique visitors, as it is posted on RFFM.org, coming from as many as 15 countries from around the world.  But the phenomenon regarding Barack Obama and the antichrist are staggering, if we look at various search engines and the number of results posted surrounding this matter.

Depending on your search terms, Google has:

1,490,000 results for the search terms:  is Obama the antichrist

1,220,000 results for the terms:  Obama antichrist 

and there are 846,000 results for:  is Barack Obama the antichrist

Yahoo's search engine has even more results:  "Is Obama the antichrist" has 12,300,000 results.  Yahoo also has a section called "explore concepts" with the above phrase and millions upon millions of more results.

Type in "is the antichrist Barack Obama" and Yahoo has 4,220,000 results.

Now, I've only mentioned two search engines and a few search terms here.  There are possibly hundreds or thousands of search engines out there, all pointing to many articles, etc., discussing Obama in the same breath as the antichrist.

Indeed, I received so many comments to my original piece on the subject, I felt it was necessary to write a follow-up column warning Christians and others to be careful about calling Obama the antichrist [titled: Christians Need To Be Careful About Antichrist / Obama Comparisons http://rffm.typepad.com/republicans_for_fair_medi/2008/03/christians-need.html].  This piece received a mere fraction of hits compared to the original, but I felt it needed to be written.

Is Barack Obama the antichrist?  Clearly that is a query which is on the lips of millions around the world.

Is Obama a Messiah?  This question took those who support Obama to places they did not want to be.

Antichrist...yes, by all means. He is the ultimate speaker and loved and 'wanted' by the evil people of the world around him. All of 'his' people will follow him, they are the weak who are easily fooled by the wolf in sheep's clothing. The strong and the lambs of God will see through this deception. But may not be able to change this biblical destiny.

I agree with you and the majority of the posters from your original posting some months ago.

I have no political preference but I feel that anyone that says that 'gay' or 'abortion' is alright is going against God. That is only two strikes against Obama, there are many many more. Gay rights and abortion have been casualy excepted among people that are of a sick mind and they support others that are sick minded in order to advance their agendas.

Some of you will feel insulted and lash out at my comments I am sure but you still have time to mend your ways and follow what God instructed mere mortals to do. If you don't know the Bible and the teachings therein, I suggest you ask God to guide you and study the Bible. Don't just read it, study it.

We ARE only mere mortals, God was divine and He knew our weaknesses, but He gave us the road map to love and truth. Follow that roadmap and it will open your eyes.

Obama is antichrist and disguised well among his supporters. They give him strength and they are like him, feeding him 'their' support has advanced him far in just months.

Everything is tying together these days.Its just a big knot of chaos,something big is going to happen soon,...grab your guns grab your families,garb enough food for a winter and lots of seeds for farming in the spring and summer, GO TO THE WOODS GO TO THE MOUNTAINS. otherwise you may be subject to anything the dark forces have to offer(and Obama).
