Democrats in power today would do well to remember the words of President John F. Kennedy who--in his legendary inaugural address to the nation--said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." During recent decades, the Democratic Party has advanced policies which are clearly in contradiction to Kennedy's hopes for American society. Those on the left have embraced a philosophy which stands in stark contrast to Kennedy's famous quote. If Democrats were writing a speech for Kennedy in 2010, the quote would read, "Ask what your country can do for you, ask not what you can do for your country." The inherent message is liberals and government know what's best for the public.
Democrats--who believe government should control our lives--are extremists, driven by the philosophy of situational ethics and moral relativism. Therefore, the ends justify the means in their pursuit of their beliefs. To advance their agenda, they will lie, distort and practice the art of omission when it comes to dealing with those who oppose them.
Unfortunately, the establishment media--which is dominated by liberals--has bought into the ends justify the means strategy. This gives the Democratic Party a distinct advantage in the advancement of liberal causes because they have a press which adheres to the notion any tactics to right perceived political or social wrongs are acceptable. Subsequently, the Republican Party finds itself in an uphill battle. But, thankfully, through talk radio and alternative media sources, Americans are learning the truth regarding politics which they do not receive from the mainstream press.
Now I am not suggesting Republicans should resort to a strategy that is immoral. Republicans have a moral standard they must--and should abide by--which, in today's political world, puts them at a disadvantage.
I am a Republican, but I am not naive enough to believe all of those in the GOP are perfect. Many Republicans end up fighting the political battle with one hand tied behind their back because they don't believe in situational ethics, moral relativism and the ends justify the means philosophy.
Socially conservative Republicans believe in absolute truth, rebel against the application of situational ethics and believe moral relativism is an anathema. They believe morality should not only be applied to their politics, but to their personal lives as well. However, as human beings, they are not perfect, but they do their best to honestly portray their views.
The agenda of the Democratic Party is driven by class warfare, race baiting and demagoguery. The policies advanced by the Democratic Party (with the help of the dominant media) during the last 40 years have failed many of those they claim to represent. Their party is represented by a wealthy elite who cherish few of the values held dear by most Americans. Democrats promote dependence over initiative, blame over responsibility and dwell in victimization--instead of celebrating the inherent nature of Americans who strive to overcome adversity.
But Republicans should not sink to their level when it comes to politics and advancing a political agenda. Character does matter. The ends do NOT justify the means in politics or in life.

Yes, JFK would no longer recognize his party. As I recall, Jack was even a Life Member of the NRA...
