Obama and Unemployment: Highly Employable Go Without Jobs

EDITOR’S NOTE:  RFFM received this letter in response to a column titled “Unemployment Insurance: Not An Entitlement, But Obama Acts As If It Is” [http://rffm.typepad.com/republicans_for_fair_medi/2010/07/unemployment-insurance-not-an-entitlement-but-obama-acts-as-if-it-is.html].  It is a sad, but telling  description of the jobs market in America today.  The author has no political agenda.  Mrs. Smithson simply describes what those who are currently on the unemployment rolls are experiencing in their attempt to earn a living.

I just read your article.  I have been unemployed since 2008, and I have never refused a job.  I worked for a mortgage company.  Since that is no longer an option, I've had to look for jobs for which I am over qualified.  I don't mind that at all I just want to work.  I have gone to job fair after job fair, I have registered with my local Workforce Center, I have setup job alerts at tons of website's, I have let everyone I know and everyone I meet know that I am looking for a job, and followed every lead.

 

At first employers were fine with job experience, however, they began asking for an associates degree for a receptionist position at $8 to $10 an hour and then a 2-4 year degree within the industry that you are applying.  And more recently, they are asking that you have experience using their company specific software as well as an associates or bachelors degree in the specific industry.  Again, I don't mind working for less.

 

Now I don't mind the pay cut or starting at the bottom, but it is becoming more impossible to find a job.  It is not because I couldn't negotiate my wants, I just want a job.  I am willing to take whatever I can get.

 

Employers are asking for more because they can, because they receive hundreds of desperate applicants for each job they post.  I understand why there doing it, we all enjoy getting more bang for our buck.  Unfortunately, I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I am thankful for unemployment extensions.  Yes, those of us on unemployment would all rather have a job, but we the reality is we don't.

 

I have been laid off 3 times and quit a job once in my career, companies fail, but I have never been out of work this long in my life.  I always worked temp until the next job came along.  Not even temp agencies are hiring.

 

I get tired of listening to the news because they talk about where were at, I know where were are, I would like to hear solutions, I want to hear about how we can get out of this mess.

University of Illinois Professor Pays Price For Political Incorrectness Regarding "Gays"

EDITOR'S NOTE:  Beth Rogers is a frequent contributor to RFFM.org and a pro-family political activist.  Rogers, who hails from Springfield, Illinois, is one of the most influential socially conservative leaders in the state.

Proponents of "gay" rights have said many times what others do in their bedroom doesn't affect anyone else and is no one's business.  The recent circumstances at the University of Illinois prove otherwise as a university professor shared his beliefs on natural moral laws and then was fired for his opinion.

Professor Kenneth Howell's firing is only one example of how others in society are affected by government recognition of the homosexual lifestyle and how laws, such as the recent passing of hate-crimes legislation, affect everyone in society and then become everyone’s business.

Hate-crimes legislation shouldn’t even exist because it grants "special" protections, not constitutional equal protection.  All citizens are already protected under the 14th Amendment as having equal protection under the law.

Professor Howell is allegedly being punished for his religious belief and view that sexuality is between a man and a woman.  The professor, in his e-mail stated, "In other words, sexual acts are only appropriate for people who are complementary, not the same."

This is not hate speech as he was speaking truths related to natural law.  Why would a university punish someone who, by his opinion, is also affirming longstanding Illinois law that declares sexuality in marriage as being between a man and a woman?  If his opinion is aligned with these constitutional laws, then don't punish him for upholding those laws that are also aligned with natural law.

This recent action of the university is an example of individuals and groups being demonized for following a faith and moral tradition that has served civilization well for centuries.  It is not hate to agree with God about sexuality and natural moral law as well as protecting members of our society, which includes homosexuals.

Homosexual Marriage: A Sure Budget Buster, Come One, Come All

EDITOR'S NOTE:  Beth Rogers is a community activist from central Illinois.

I recently saw a lady on the news who lost her job and is desperate for health insurance.  Now she is advertising herself on YouTube to marry someone who has good health insurance and that's the only reason she wants to get married because of her pre-existing condition and desperate health situation.  She is looking for a man, but in today's world she could marry a woman just to get health insurance. 

I'm thinking that homosexual marriage is going to open up the door for people to get married just for that reason.  For instance, two straight friends could get married just so that the other can have health insurance.  If two people of the same sex are allowed to marry, there's nothing in the law that says they can't wed whether they are straight or homosexual.  We've added same sex as another legal class of people to the definition of marriage.  Just marry your friends to give them benefits.  Same sex marriage means extended benefits and, if we include polygamy into the legal definition of marriage, then everybody should be able to have health benefits.  And they say homosexual marriage doesn't affect any one else?

James Pouillon Murder: Where's The Outrage From Dominant Media? by Arlene Sawicki

OPEN LETTER TO THE MEDIA

The premeditated murder of James Pouillon of Owosso, Michigan, a disabled pro-life activist, father of two and grandfather, affectionately known by locals as the peaceful "sign guy," is being mourned by the nation's pro-life community.

Pouillon was gunned down across the street from the Owosso High School while holding a photograph of a baby with the word "LIFE."

County officials have accused 33-year-old Harlan Drake of shooting Pouillon several times because he was "offended by the manner of Mr. Pouillon's message."

Leading pro-life advocates are questioning the lack of a concerned response from key abortion advocates, especially from the office of the president, which were quick to condemn the murder of late-term abortionist Dr. George Tiller and call for drastic protective measures for abortion centers.

Many in the media never missed an opportunity to use this example to condemn the entire pro-life movement as if it consisted entirely of hate-filled people.  The shooting comes at a time when pro-life groups have been receiving high numbers of death threats in the wake of the shooting of Dr. Tiller and the strong pro-life opposition to the government-run health care bills pending in Congress that open the door for massive abortion funding.

Father Frank Pavone, the head of Priests for Life, had this to say about the lack of a pro-abortion reaction:  "I call on the leaders of the so called 'pro-choice' movement to condemn this killing and to consider all of the (3,500) people who lose their lives to abortion every single day."

James Pouillon abhorred violence, in any form, especially the murder of 55 million innocent babies through legalized abortion.  The violence against him makes the total of victims 55 million and one man who chose to peacefully witness against a "culture of death."

Carl Segvich: Letter to Washington Times on U.S. AG, Eric Holder

Let's be frank.  I am a politically conservative Republican, and I wholeheartedly welcome Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.'s provocative remarks on "things racial."  As an aggressive activist, I agree with him that we are a "nation of cowards."  Debate with intellectual honesty is very healthy.

To start things off, Mr. Attorney General, would you agree we should dismiss the deranged and racist laws involving so-called hate crimes?  We need to follow one Constitution and one set of laws for everyone.  If I rob a wallet on a weekend from someone across town of another race, I don't want to be prosecuted more severely than if I rob my neighbor's wallet on a Wednesday.

I hope our liberal Democratic neighbors across this great nation agree with Mr. Holder that "we must feel comfortable enough with one another and tolerant enough of each other to have frank conversations."

It would be edifying to discuss the argument that many problems blamed on racial divides are really caused by socioeconomic divides.  That is, the politically privileged versus the underprivileged.  For example, we can talk about how, as deputy attorney general, Mr. Holder played an integral role with power broker Jack Quinn in winning a pardon for the biggest tax fugitive in American history, Marc Rich.  Mr. Rich - who is worth about $1.5 billion and ran away to Switzerland - is white.  Mr. Holder is black.  I would like to hear his in-depth explanation as it relates to, as he puts it, "things racial."  I probably would beg to differ - it's about clout, power and money.

I think a better indicator of us cowards is not race but money.

Rob Sherman Is A Narcissist--Our Nation Suffers For It by B.V. Andersen

EDITOR'S NOTE: The following letter by B.V. The ramifications of what an individual like Rob Sherman and others of like mind (such as the late Madalyn Murray O’Hair) can do (and have done) through legal channels to affect our society in such negative ways is pretty mind-boggling, isn’t it?  And, like the professed atheist Rob Sherman, I suspect Madalyn O’Hair enjoyed all of the notoriety she acquired from her actions as a professed atheist as well.  What a pathetic display of narcissism when they can tragically affect so many people through their exaggerated sense of importance as they go about the business of trying to draw attention to themselves, and then defend their actions as though their behavior was really relevantly worthwhile.

Actually, narcissism is a mental disorder described as “narcissistic personality disorder” and is a condition described and characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance, and an extreme preoccupation with one’s self.

We have to wonder why many in our current society are apparently so easily hoodwinked by these shysters who like to pan themselves and their “causes” off as worthy endeavors, when the root of it is their personal pleasure in blissfully wallowing in all of the attention and sense of “stardom” it draws to themselves.  Unfortunately, it seems to be a malady that far too many politicians suffer from as well. The “Rob Sherman’s” and many politicians all have a great deal in common. They all have a sense of self-importance, and seem more than willing to sacrifice the welfare of their country, family and loved ones to enjoy the fame and notoriety that becomes like a heady wine to their distorted egos.

Under the guise of often pretending to be gurus of justice, they are actually simply exhibiting a narcissistic disorder that inflates their ego.  In some respects, they are like spoiled children (brats?) looking for attention in irresponsible, ridiculous ways; and too many unthinking people simply oblige them by their gullible acceptance; and perhaps without fully realizing it, they are accepting mentally distorted behavior as though it were normal.

Yes, I agree with the suggestion that they probably need pity and prayer for the pathetic way they manage to manipulatively sell their “bill of goods” and themselves, and try to make it sound like something that’s worthwhile, when it’s neither worthwhile or normal behavior. Instead, it’s just another of the distressing factors in our present society that is all too prone to want to be “politically correct” (so to speak).  It’s a society that has been conditioned to be accepting of anything and everything through the misguided concept that we must accept and be tolerant even of the intolerable.  I look forward to the day when a little more sanity can be brought back to our society; because some of the things that seem to simply be taken for granted nowadays (in my opinion) falls into the category of the preposterous and absurd.
